Active In Several Softball Leagues

John Arthur Thackerson, 65, of Chattanooga, and a former resident of Birmingham, Al., died on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at Erlanger hospital.

John was born in Talladega, Al., and had worked at Eureka Foundry for 30 years as a draftsman and customer service sales estimator.

He was active in several softball leagues, including the Tennessee Senior Softball League. John will be remembered for his big heart and his special pecan pies.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Thalia Jo Morrow Thackerson; parents, Arthur R. and Gladys Gurley Thackerson; two brothers, Richard and Clarence (Buddy) Thackerson; grandparents; and special aunt and uncle, Annice and Ed Gurley.

He is survived by one brother, Sam (Cindy) Thackerson; three sisters, Ann T. (Bill) Hurst, Sara Thackerson and Bobbi Stewart; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He also is survived by his special adopted family, Virginia Long and Jackie Long (Jeff) Gray and children and Heidi Long (Rod) Moore and children; and many special friends and coworkers.

The family expresses special appreciation to Lisa Asbury, Karen Dunegan and to the NICU at Erlanger hospital for their outstanding care and compassion.

The family will receive friends from 5 -8 p.m. Monday at the Coulter Chapel of Lane Funeral Home.

Mr. Thackerson will be taken to Martin Funeral Home, Clanton, Al., for additional visitation and funeral services. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Pell City, Al.

Memorial contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church of Clanton or the Tennessee Senior Softball League.
