Bob Payne
First things first: Peewee Moore And The Awful Dreadful Snakes is the name of the band. They are not awful or dreadful. In fact, they are a darn good band, tight and professional. And they are real, unlike my band from last week, the Chatt-town Players Band. They play some fine countrified music, much of which is original.
Peewee is known around these parts from his time with the Tennessee Rounders, the band that came as close as one could come to making it big. They broke up a couple years ago, and Peewee started the Awful Dreadful Snakes, as well as his solo act. I can tell you this; Pee-Wee has built a great sound with the Snakes.
With just three members, the Awful Dreadful Snakes have a full sound that never leaves you feeling like they would sound better with a fourth or fifth. No fiddle needed, here. No second guitar needed. No keyboard needed. The lead guitar of Peewee, the bass of Brian Jones, and the drums of Matthew Olsen are all that is needed. All three are accomplished musicians, and Peewee can flat hit the licks on his guitar. His sound is pretty cool too, as his playing style kind of reminds me a bit of the late Jeff Healy. That’s not bad company.
Peewee and his band of merry music makers have been on two U.S. tours this year, and just kicked off their third, live from T-Bones last Friday night. They are realizing huge popularity, especially in the Midwest, and of course at home. When they return to Chattanooga after this tour, I would highly recommend them for an excellent night of music. If you want to check them out, just click here.
The local music show with Robert T. Nash on WGOW 102.3 FM went well last Friday. This week, we have an interview with Edgar Winter and you can catch it live at 3 p.m. on Friday. You can also listen here. Edgar will be in Chattanooga for a concert at the First Tennessee Pavilion on November 7, along with Kansas and Chattanooga favorites Overland Express. You can get info and tickets here.
Bob’s pick-o-the-week is my friend Kylie Harris, playing at the Chattanooga Market Party today at Miller Plaza at 4 p.m. Kylie played at to great reviews at Riverbend this year, hosted the television show “The Edge Of Country” on GAC, received the Gold Guitar Award and New Zealand’s Country Album Of The Year Award. She tours with Patty Loveless. Her latest album, Love, Lessons, And Lies features some of the country’s best songwriters and musicians. Take a few minutes after work on Thursday to hear this extraordinary artist at Miller Plaza and do yourself a favor and pick up a signed copy of her new CD.
Bob’s pick-o-the–weekend is a double at Riverhouse Pub – A.J Valcarcel on Friday and Danger Kitty on Saturday.
I also want to send a great big happy birthday to Shani of the band Sweet n Lowdown, playing at Fox Cay at Island Cove on Friday night. She says it is her 40th, but I think it’s really her 30th.
Oh yeah, many people have commented that my picture above was my high school picture. Wrong. It was taken at the 2009 Pink! Gala. Photoshop 7.0 rocks!
