Tom Sawyer's Christmas Tree Farm Donates Partial Proceeds To Children’s Hospital

  • Tuesday, December 6, 2011

Tom Sawyer’s Christmas Tree Farm is assisting shoppers with an opportunity to give back to a local cause by donating partial proceeds of their sales to Children’s Hospital at Erlanger.

Officials said, "If you are out shopping for that perfect Christmas tree, stop by the tent on the corner of Manufacturers Road and Cherokee Boulevard across from Renaissance Park in North Chattanooga. Be sure to tell the cashier you want 10% of your purchase to go to Children’s Hospital or Erlanger Health System Foundations."

“Christmas is all about Christ and children,” said Mr.

Sawyer. “It makes sense to partner with other causes and create a way for the communities to help too.”

Mr. Sawyer’s wife, Myra Sawyer, a former resident of Dalton, Ga., is very familiar with the miracles Children’s Hospital at Erlanger performs on a daily basis. Children’s Hospital holds a special place in the hearts of her family.

“Over the years we have had several family members and friends who were treated at Children’s,” she said.

“The hospital just seemed to be what we wanted to give back to the community,” said Mr. Sawyer.

At 3,800 feet elevation and 60 miles south of Asheville, N.C., there lies the Sawyer’s personal home, Christmas tree farm and elf village in the Highland Mountains. They have owned this “winter wonderland” since 1989 selling over 5,000 trees each and every holiday season.

The family cuts trees on a daily basis to either sell on their property or transport to other regions.

“The trees we are selling now were cut right after the snow fall we had earlier this week,” said Mr. Sawyer during a phone conversation as he was driving back down the mountain to deliver more trees. “They are the freshest you will ever get from a retail lot.”

Fraser Firs of all different sizes from table top to 14 feet tall, along with wreaths and garlands, are available with the 10% donation rate. Receipt of the donation must also be recorded on the purchase slip. Other discounted rates cannot be combined with this promotion.

Hours of operation are from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m., seven days a week until all items are sold.
