The 12th annual Half Moon Music festival in Ten Mile, Tn. will showcase area talent at a relaxing day spent in the Blue Springs Cove of Watts Bar Lake. It will be held on Sunday, July 10, from 1-5:30 p.m.
“The event is our way of giving back to the area” said Dr. Wayne Tipps, Half Moon organizer. “It is an opportunity for our community to come together and enjoy the natural resources of the area as well as enjoy some fantastic music."
The Streamliners will be kicking off the event at 1 p.m. This Knoxville based band consists of young jazz musicians and plays the hard-swinging music of Duke Ellington and Count Basie.
The East Tennessee Concert Band will begin at 3 p.m. This symphonic, classical band is comprised of a mix of both professional and amateur musicians from all walks of life that join together to create classical music. Founded in 1991 this group has preformed around the globe and is noted for its quality wind ensemble music. It is the 2007-2008 recipient of the John Philip Sousa Foundation's Sudler Silver Scroll, North America's most prestigious award for community concert bands. The East Tennessee Concert Band is under the direction of Dr. Ric Best.
From 4:30-5:30 p.m., the Possum Hunters will bring the 2011 Half Moon Music Festival to a close. This six-piece bluegrass band provides bluegrass music that appeals to people of all ages. Songs range from driving traditional tunes to more modern sounding music with a rock or jazz flair played on bluegrass instruments.
As always this year’s festival is free of charge with donations being accepted, it has been made possible by sponsors like the Roane County Alliance and the Blue Springs Marina.
