Grit And Gumption Are Good Judicial Qualities Too

  • Wednesday, July 18, 2012

I love campaign season - “it’s the most wonderful time of the year.”  Today, I am reading judicial candidates' claims to have the best controlled temper, or temperament, each maintaining they have the most controlled temper.

My favorite judge was Walter Williams, a dynamic, tell-it-like-it-was kind of guy, none of that tip toeing around issues. He addressed violations of law head on for good cause - to keep young people out of the prison cycle.  Judge Williams changed young lives with his shock style.

My second favorite judge was Bob Moon.

He never sugar coated anything. What he thought is what he stated. Judge Moon was the only judge willing to support legislation to abolish pretrial divisions and expunging records of the perpetrators of crimes against children, after all the defense attorneys hated the idea.

So, if you are peddling sheeple as an extraordinary quality in a judge, you can keep it.  I believe citizens expect the last stop before prison to have grit over manners every day of the week.  If shock can reroute  young people away from the prison cycle, let it rip.
