Ray D. Lane, 84, of Cleveland, TN, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013 with his loving family by his side.
He was born November 27, 1928 in Meigs County, TN. He was 6th of twelve children born to the late Will Lane and Edith McGill Lane. Mr. Lane was a carpenter and worked in construction until his retirement. He was very talented in woodworking and continued this hobby as long as he was able. He also enjoyed clog dancing, traveling and collecting caps. His CB friends knew him as “Nail Driver”. He always had a smile and will be greatly missed by his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his siblings, Lester Lane, Jack Lane, Burke Lane, Jimmy Lane, Melba Hickman, Helen Branham and Enzinna Lane.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Betty Williams Lane; his sons and wives, Darrell and Connie Lane and Robert and Arlene Lane; grandson, Davis Lane; granddaughter, Edelyn Lane of Seattle WA; great-granddaughter, Jazasia Francisco of Seattle; brothers, Glen Lane, Allen and Sally Lane; sisters, Mary Morgan and Willie and Ed Brock; sisters-in-law, Laphene Lane of Dalton, Wanda Lane Shannon of Ooltewah, Dot Ward of Cleveland, Ruth and Carlos Mohan of Dalton and Emma Williams of Decatur; brother-in-law, Gail Williams; and several nieces and nephews.
A Remembrance of Life Service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday May 14, at the Wildwood chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Rev. Floyd Boggess officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memorial gardens with nephews Lindy Hickman, Max Brock, David Lane, Danny Morgan, Robert Williams and Bernard Branham serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearer will be grandson Davis Lane and other nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 13 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Jim Rush Funeral Home who has charge of the arrangements.
