The Benghazi Cover Up - And Response (6)

  • Thursday, May 9, 2013

We saw extraordinary testimony before Congress today from the whistleblowers who are exposing the truth about Benghazi.

This is what's clear to me: when our consulate in Benghazi was attacked on Sept. 11, 2012, and four Americans were killed, there was no question to those on the ground that it was a coordinated terrorist attack from the beginning. Security at the consulate was grossly inadequate, and officials at the highest levels of the Obama Administration mismanaged the response to the attack. In the aftermath, key witnesses were intimidated and silenced as senior Administration officials proceeded to deliberately mislead the American people about what transpired on that tragic day.

This is a bona fide Washington cover up.

On the 11th anniversary of 9/11, Islamic extremists again took precious American lives. Yet, we were initially told by the Obama Administration that a YouTube video had inspired a spontaneous riot. We know this to be blatantly false.

The Administration's actions surrounding the Benghazi attack are incomprehensible to me, as they are to you and most Americans.

Earlier this year, former Sec. Hillary Clinton yelled during her testimony on Benghazi, "What difference, at this point, does it make?"

It makes all the difference in the world to know who in the Obama Administration ordered the cover up and why.

I have cosponsored legislation to form a special committee to thoroughly investigate what transpired before, during and after the attack in Benghazi.

I will continue working in Congress to push for the full truth and full accountability.

Freedom First,

Congressman Tom Graves

Extraordinary testimony? A bona fide Washington cover up? It looked more to me like something to do other than work on actual problems that face middle and lower middle class working (and out of work) Americans.

I realize it's lots easier to strut and parade around, making a lot of noise about how you are outraged about this or that, instead of reaching across the aisle and actually trying to come up with some answers concerning tax rates for the wealthy (lowest in years), corporate loopholes (more than ever) and excess profits coupled with offshore tax havens and outsourcing.

Also, why not confront the problems of rampant Rx drug abuse that is slowly killing our small towns and big cities, along with widespread Medicare fraud that causes skyrocketing healthcare costs for everybody? Failing that, why not pass some measly background check legislation? Does the Tea Party and the NRA have everyone that scared? If so, that's shameful.

I believe congress is incapable of pouring water out of a boot with directions on the heel.
Our forefathers would be embarrassed.

There was nothing about the testimony which was in any way "extraordinary," contrary to the claims by Tom Graves. In the customary fashion, Republican members of the committee made speeches attacking members of the Obama administration, and Democrat members of the committee made speeches supporting the administration. One of the witnesses (valiantly?) fought back tears.

By the way, Graves is not even on the committee (the Oversight Committee) holding the hearings. What is he running for? And why is he co-sponsoring a proposal for another hearing? This hearing will accomplish nothing, and he wants another non-productive hearing? He might as well support another vote (the 35th?) to repeal Obamacare.

Why don't I remember an investigation when 242 Marines were killed during the watch of President Reagan?  Why don't I remember President GW Bush and the Republicans jumping up and down hollering for an investigation of 9/11?

Today, the Republicans passed legislation that requires us to pay our debt to the Chinese before paying our military and veterans.

If there is a real man in the Republican Party, I've not met him.  Shame, shame, shame.

Here's how it all boils down:

The State Department withdrew some important security personnel from Libya.  A former Security Chief in Libya has confirmed that fact.  Budgets had nothing to do with it.

An attack occurred on Sept. 11, 2012 and decisions were made not to send forces to fight it.

Why?  If it worked, President Obama would have been praised and received support from U.S. citizens as a whole.  It would probably have helped his re-election effort.

But, and here's where politics entered the discussion, if it didn't work, if rescuers were killed along with diplomats, It's Carter all over again.

So, they decide not to send help and to blame the attacks on a third rate video that hardly anyone had seen or was even aware of until they started using it as an excuse.

Part of me can see the wisdom in not taking the risk during a heated attack.  If the administration had explained it this way, I think most Americans would have at least considered the options Obama faced and understood.

But, no.  They had to make up some story about protests over a video so nobody would consider it a terrorist attack on his watch.

The lies will get you every time.

It is a sad day when politicians seek to protect their party and fellow party members rather than conduct a thorough investigation as to why four American's died needlessly. Messer's Strickland and Durham, enablers both, would be ashamed, if only they could put their country's needs and honor, before their politics. Shameful, to dishonor the fallen, all for petty political advantage.

I was somewhat amazed at the responses from Mr. Montgomery, Strickland, and Durham.  The Benghazi affair was a major scandal before, during, and after the event.  This event highlights the incredible incompetence and arrogance, not to mention continual lying, of Mr. Obama, Ms. Clinton and their minions as they have attempted to cover up this scandal.

In typical leftist fashion, Montgomery et.al. ignore significance of this story by pointing to other non-related events/issues.  The facts indicate that the State Department ignored repeated requests for additional security for the Libyan mission setting the stage for the attack.  The facts indicate that Mr. Obama and Ms. Clinton were, within hours of the attack, fully aware that a known terrorist organization, Ansar al-Sharia, was responsible for the attack and yet for weeks floated the story that a video was responsible and that the attack was a spontaneous event.  Where I come from, that is called lying.  And we now know, thanks to ABC News, that there were 12 different drafts of the Administration's talking points that were amended/redacted by administration officials to remove any mention of Ansar al-Sharia.  To add insult to injury, no one in Libya has been brought to justice for this attack.

Regarding the Congressional hearing, after hearing Deputy Chief of Mission Gregory Hick's testimony, it was clear that Mr. Obama and Ms. Clinton turned their backs on their people in Benghazi.  They refused to send help despite pleas from those on the ground.  That strikes me as "extraordinary" testimony.  It appears from what we know thus far about Benghazi that the Obama administration did nothing right and everything wrong and have continually lied to the American public.

It disgusts me that this scandal has been ignored by so many for so long.  I suppose, had the Benghazi affair occurred on the watch of a Republican, the respondents to Rep. Graves' post would be screaming for impeachment.

As the Benghazi onion slowly peels away, it is becoming more and more apparent that Mr. Obama and Ms. Clinton have orchestrated a major cover up and that further inquiry is needed. To Rep. Graves, I applaud you for your effort to uncover the truth behind this cover up.
