R. Stephen Tingle, prominent commercial real estate developer, 67, of Signal Mountain, died on August 3, 2013.

A lifelong resident of Chattanooga, he was a graduate of Central High School and Middle Tennessee State University.

Steve served his country in the United States Army, after which he returned to Chattanooga where he was employed as a contract administrator for Combustion Engineering.  He then attended law school at Atlanta Law School while working full time at Service Master.  Upon graduation from law school, he developed a successful law practice in Rossville for several years.

In 1987 he joined CBL and Associates where he worked as a commercial real estate developer for 21 years.  After his retirement from CBL in 2008, he resumed his employment as a commercial real estate developer with The Hutton Company, for whom he recently negotiated a major commercial development in Mobile, AL.

Steve had many interests, including a great love of listening to and playing bluegrass music, camping all over the country and fly fishing. Some of his favorite times were fishing with Jeff and Hailey and trips with Catherine and Kulbeer. Malinda and Steve loved taking trips to the British Virgin Islands where they shared their favorite spots with their daughters and friends. Most of all he deeply loved his family and his friends.  If Steve was your friend, you could be sure, “He had your back.”  He was a loving, compassionate and generous man who will be missed by all who knew him.

Steve was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Tingle,  brother, Phillip Tingle,  sister, Betty Tingle and his parents, Gordon and Louise Tingle.

He had many nieces, nephews and godchildren and truly enjoyed his role as Uncle Steve and was a father figure to many.

He is also survived by very special friends, Larry (Gail) Armour, Ron (Karen) Fullam and Karen (Jim) Coppinger and niece, Anna (Davis) Manning.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 11 a.m. at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 8451 E. Brainerd Road with Reverend Mike Steele officiating.
