Auditions For Fat Shirley’s: A Trailer Park Opera Announced

Auditions for Fat Shirley’s: A Trailer Park Opera will be held at the Mountain Arts Community Center, 809 Kentucky Ave., Signal Mountain on Thursday, May 14 and Friday, May 15, at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday May 17 at 2 p.m.  Show dates are scheduled for July 31, August 1, 2, 7, and 8. 

Fat Shirley’s is an original two-act musical comedy written by T. J. Brown and D. B. Crawford. It follows the lives of the trailer park’s residents following the untimely demise of their beloved landlady, Fat Shirley. The show has been performed throughout the Southeast as well as in the United Kingdom, including the Redgrave in Bristol, the Bristol Folk House, and at the Bath Theatre Festival. 

The large cast is composed of males and females ranging in age from 12 to 70. Bluegrass musicians are also needed. Directing the musical will be veteran director and producer Josh Ruben.

Those auditioning will perform cold readings from the script and also sing a country, gospel, bluegrass, or show tune that they enjoy singing and shows off their skills. No prior acting experience is required. For additional information email countraywise@yahoo.com or call 423-877-7578.
