Henderson, Eleanor Tillison

  • Saturday, November 26, 2016

Eleanor Tillison Henderson, a resident of Signal Mountain since 1968, died quietly at home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, November 23, 2016.

Eleanor was born May 22, 1936, in Glencoe, Al. Her family moved to Atlanta in 1942.  She was a member of Mount Vernon Methodist Church and sang in the youth choir where she met her future husband, Jack Henderson. She graduated from West Fulton High School.

Eleanor, a very caring elegant woman with a big cheery smile, will be remembered for her extraordinary devotion to her family. She enjoyed traveling and shared her late husband's love of boating with family and friends. This inspired her passion for lighthouses. Eleanor, also, enjoyed walking with friends. The group was a fixture in their Carriage Hill neighborhood for many years.

She was a member of Signal Crest United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and served on the alter guild committee.

Eleanor regularly volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House of Greater Chattanooga and the Signal Mountain Social Service Clothes House.

She is survived by sons, F. Jack Henderson III (Marlene) of Charlotte, NC; Lewis Connally Henderson (Julie) of Los Angeles, CA; daughter, Glynn Marie Henderson of Signal Mountain, TN; nine grandchildren, William, Ellyn, Jackson, Patrick, Ella, Grey Henderson and Michael, Grace and Emily Moreland; sisters; Ruth Waits and Lois Spradley (Ernie) and brother, Lowery Tillison (Sonya).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Signal Crest United Methodist Church at 1005 Ridgeway Avenue, Signal Mtn., TN  37377 or Ronald McDonald House Charities of Chattanooga at 200 Central Ave, Chattanooga, TN 37403.

Visitation will be held from 2-2:45 pm with the memorial service following at 3 p.m. at Signal Crest United Methodist Church. A continued celebration of Eleanor's life will be held at the Signal Mountain Golf and Country Club.

Arrangements are by Lane Funeral Home, Coulter Chapel, Ashland Terrace.
