William “Bill” George Hensley, 91, of Soddy Daisy, died at his home, surrounded by family, on Saturday, June 4, 2016.

He was born in Daisy, where he graduated from Soddy Daisy High School in 1942. After serving in the Army Air Corp as a navigator in World War II, he completed his electrical engineering degree at Georgia Tech. He created two patents during his career at 3M in research and development. As a member of Daisy First Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. With his wife, Patsy, he traveled throughout the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, pursuing his passion of photography. During retirement he also was a member of the Airstream International Club (WBCCI-TCPC).

Bill was a devoted husband to the love of his life for 67 years. He was willing to do whatever was necessary to protect, encourage, and support his five daughters. He greatly loved his 10 grandchildren and annual get-togethers in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. His six great-grandchildren also brought joy and laughter in his later years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Ruth Wallace Hensley; his parents, George Curtis Hensley, Jr. and Annott Elizabeth Millsaps Hensley; sister, Wilma Hensley Barnes.

He is survived by five daughters and sons-in-law: Ann (Adel) Sarrafzadeh of Santa Cruz, CA; Lynn (Kirk) Rau of Soddy Daisy; Mary (Bob) Baker of White House, TN; Libby (Billy) Branch of Ellijay, GA; Laura (Brad) Snyder of Soddy Daisy; 10 grandchildren: Solmaaz Sarrafzadeh (Weston) Rowan; Shameem Sarrafzadeh; Heidi Rau (Adam) Foster; Stephen Rau; Mitchell (Karen) Baker; Jeremy Baker; Phillip Branch; Drew (Emily) Branch; Claire Branch; Raven Snyder. 6 great-grandchildren: Layla Robinson, Laurel Foster, Hensley Baker, Elsie Baker, William Snyder, Melanie Snyder and one niece and two great-nieces.

In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to The Alzheimer’s Association Mid-South Chapter, 7625 Hamilton Park Drive, Suite 6, Chattanooga, TN 37421 or designate the “Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions” and mail to: First Baptist Church Soddy Daisy, 10185 Dayton Pike, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379. 

The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, at Daisy First Baptist Church with Reverend Seton Tomyn officiating. Interment will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Visitation is on Monday, June 6, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Williamson and Sons Funeral Home in Soddy Daisy.
