Girl, 17, Who Accidentally Shot Herself With Revolver At East Ridge Apartment Dies

East Ridge Police said the 17-year-old girl who accidentally shot herself on Sunday has died.

East Ridge Police, Fire and EMS responded about 7 p.m. to the Dogwood Place Apartments at 201 Eads St.

The call was a person shot.

As officers were responding, dispatch was advised that a witness was taking the victim to Parkridge East Hospital by private vehicle. Police passed the car at Ringgold Road and Frawley Road. Police then followed the car to Parkridge East.

P:olice said two witnesses, Taylor Malathong and Sebastian Malathong, gave several conflicting stories as to what events had taken place that led up to the shooting.

Police said, "Continued investigation determined that the victim went to the above location with a pistol and was showing it Mr. Malathong. He said that the victim unloaded all but one round and then placed the pistol to her head. Mr. Malathong said that he yelled at the victim not to do that and reached for the pistol. He said it was at that time the victim shot herself in the right side of her head. All evidence at the scene, observed by Detective Creel, confirmed Mr. Malathong's statements.

The investigation is ongoing.
