Thomas Chitty
Thomas W. Chitty, Jr., 66 was born in Stevenson, Alabama, on July 18, 1950 to the late Thomas and Lucille Chitty. The Lord healed his body and called him home on March 3, 2017, at a local hospital.
He was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He enjoyed the outdoors, taking care of the lawn, garden and exercising by walking his pets. He was a competent handyman and mechanic that took pride in his work. He generously donated to the local Humane Society, the American Heart Association, and the Kidney Foundation. Being a donor recipient, he made sure to give back by being an organ and tissue donor. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He retired from Norfolk Southern Railway in Chattanooga. He became a mentor and friend to many of the young men during the years, encouraging them to be strong and productive so that they may take care of their families.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Thomas Chitty and Lucille Hutchins Chitty; sisters, Grace Killebrew and Nancy Herring; brother, Elmer W. Chitty; niece, Darlene (Thumbi) Killebrew; nephew, Brandon Grayson.
He is survived by his wife, Alphelia Pruitt-Chitty; daughter, Camisha (Dr. Melvin) Lewis; son, Jermaine (Tarnisha) Chitty; grand-son, Artorius Chitty; sisters, Mary Chitty, Jean Chitty, Sarah Newson, and Dorothy Chitty, all of Chattanooga; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be on Friday, March 10, at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave. from 12-8:30 p.m.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 11, at 1 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home Chapel, 1101 Dodds Ave. Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens East.
