Storyland Maze Promotes Reading To Young Children

  • Thursday, October 25, 2018

Read 20, in partnership with Early Matters Chattanooga and the Chattanooga Basics, aims to spark a love of reading among Hamilton County children during their third annual Harvest Moon Storyland Maze on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 1-4 p.m. at Tennessee Riverpark.

The event is geared towards families with young children (birth through five years old) and attendees are invited to dress in costume.

The maze is built of straw bales and will feature storybook characters acting out and reading their stories aloud, as well as activities for young children and their families centered on the Chattanooga Basics.

Each station within the maze will be based on the five principals behind the Chattanooga Basics and contain two levels of activities; one for infants and toddlers, and one for Pre-K children.

The Basics are "five fun, simple, and powerful ways every family can give their child a great start in life." They are Maximize Love, Manage Stress; Talk, Sing and Point; Count, Group and Compare; Explore through Movement & Play; and Read & Discuss Stories.

A few of the activities families can expect to see are the Creative Discovery Museum bus, storybook characters in costume, and an obstacle course.

All children who attend the maze event will receive free books courtesy of Read 20.
