The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of inmate Devonte Allison, 30, on Friday morning.

On Dec. 16, Allison was booked into the Hamilton County Jail on a variety of charges including selling/delivery/manufacturing of meth and possession of a firearm from Criminal Court with a bond of $14,000.

Allison was booked having pre-existing medical issues.

On Monday, after experiencing severe seizures, Allison was transported via HCEMS to a local hospital where he remained in critical condition, and died early Friday morning.

Hospital staff were in contact with Allison’s family and kept them informed of his medical condition and prognosis.

Corrections Division staff permitted Allison’s family to see him prior to his death. Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office detectives were also notified of Allison’s declining health so as to review and prepare for his passing.

As with all in-custody deaths, Hamilton County District Attorney Neil Pinkston has requested the death to be investigated. In accordance with this, he has appointed the Hamilton County Sheriff’s to conduct an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.

The Hamilton County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said inmates are routinely booked into the Hamilton County Jail with a variety of medical issues including some that pertain to serious, chronic and/or terminal diseases, etc. Inmates are provided care by contractual medical personnel onsite from Erlanger Medical Center.  When inmates need medical care that cannot be provided at the jail by contract Erlanger staff, they are transported to a hospital to ensure proper, necessary care is administered.

As this is an ongoing investigation, no further details are available at this time.
