A new book of old Chattanooga photos sponsored by Chattanoogan.com will be out in mid-October, publisher John Wilson said.

Chattanooga in Old Photos is being printed by College Press at Collegedale in a limited edition of 800 copies.

The book is made of mainly of the post card and photo collections of Mr. Wilson, Wes Schultz, Harmon Jolley and David Hawley, along with a number of other contributors, including Sam Hall and Carrington Montague.

It is the fourth book in the collection called the Chattanooga Photo Books made possible by Chattanoogan.com. The others are The Remarkable Stokes Collection, Railroads in and Around Chattanooga and Paul Hiener's Historic Chattanooga.

The new book includes almost 300 pages. It features hundreds of scenes from downtown, local landmarks, rivers and streams, parades, medical, banks, churches, entertainment, parks and cemeteries and auto and livery.

The book is highlighted by sections on Chattanooga's restaurants as well as its hotels, motels and apartments of yesteryear.

From the Rathskeller and George's Place to the Black Angus, Roy Pepper's Porch, the Mt. Vernon and the Town and Country, the well-known and beloved and the obscure are included.

The section on hotels includes the Crutchfield House, the old and the new Read House, the Patten and the other tall downtown hotels.

It also includes a wide range of the places people stayed before the freeway - including the Dixieland Motel, the Hillcrest Tourist Home and the Rocky Courts.

Chattanooga in Old Photos, when it is available around Oct. 15, will be sold at Zarzour's Restaurant on Rossville Avenue behind the Fire Hall #1 on Main Street. Other books in the Chattanooga Photo Series can be purchased there from Shannon Fuller.

To reserve a copy of Chattanooga in Old Photos, send a check for $35 to John Wilson, PO Box 2331, Chattanooga, Tn., 37409. The price includes the sales tax. You may then pick up your book when it is ready at Zarzours.

Those who want the book mailed to them when it is ready should add $5 for postage and handling for a total charge of $40.

Copies of The Remarkable Stokes Collection, Railroads in and Around Chattanooga and Paul Hiener's Historic Chattanooga are each still available at $35 each ($40 when mailed). They can be ordered from the same PO Box 2331, Chattanooga, Tn., 37409.

Please make checks out to John Wilson - not to Chattanoogan.com.
