Eleanor “Snickie” Haymore Hofmeister
Eleanor “Snickie” Haymore Hofmeister, 97, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2019.
Eleanor was born in Chattanooga to the late Doctor German P. and Beth Haymore. She attended Wiley School of Business for six months to hone her secretarial and bookkeeping skills. She worked for her father, Dr. German P. Haymore, Erlanger’s first internist. She also worked for Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company and in 1954 Eleanor went to work for Dr. Richard Hofmeister. After working together for 32 years, Eleanor and Dr. Hofmeister retired. Snickie was a member of Rivermont Presbyterian Church. She originated the Stuart Heights Garden Club and loved to play Bridge. Snickie’s love of cooking resulted in some public notoriety when her recipe for Hamburger Cobbler won first prize and was published in Red Book Magazine.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doctor Richard G. Hofmeister; siblings, Betty Walley, Charlotte Clark, Judge Haymore and Doctor Robert D. Haymore.
Eleanor is survived by her children, Ansley (Jeff) Meyer and Buster (Becky) Miller, and Dr. Hofmeister’s three children, William (Mandy) Hofmeister, Rebecca (Roger) McNeil and Scott (Vicky) Hofmeister; grandchildren, Chantelle Guthrie (Eddy Combs), Tyler (Carol Cates) Shelton, Toby (Tina) Shelton, Katie and Grace Miller; six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, October 28, at Rivermont Presbyterian Church, 3319 Hixson Pike, Chattanooga, TN 37415.
Services for Mrs. Hofmeister will follow at 11 a.m. on Monday, October 28, at Rivermont Presbyterian Church with Pastor Clay Thomas officiating.
Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery where she will be placed with her late husband, Dr. Richard G. Hofmeister.
