Homer Thomas Petty, Jr.
Homer Thomas Petty, Jr. 92, of Chattanooga passed away peacefully on Monday, October 14, 2019, at a local nursing facility while watching a western on TV.
He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was also a deacon at the former Eastdale Baptist Church.
H.T. was a prominent and distinguished Upholsterer and Refinisher in the Chattanooga and North Georgia area. From 1947 till 1978, he worked side by side with his father until his death. After that he carried on the business along with the help of his devoted part-time employee, Tom McDonald, until his death. H.T. closed his business in 2009 after 62 years.
He was known to most as H.T. but some called him Homer. He had a wonderful sense of humor and positive outlook on life and all it had to offer. He was equally known for his candor and for being irascible, all endearing traits.
H.T, was always lending a helping hand or support to family, friends and strangers that needed help along their way. He was very loving, giving and caring.
H.T. was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years Virginia Ruth, and his parents H. T. Petty Sr. and Katherine Sivley Petty, grandparents William H. and Bessie Kate Petty, James G. and Addie Armstrong Sivley.
He is survived by his sons Michael K. and Darrell L. Petty, Cindy Holton and granddogs Jenny and Scooter, longtime friends, Don and Judy Brock, Tommy Young, Alma Carver, Frances Moates and family, plus numerous friends.

A graveside memorial will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Monday, Oct. 28, at 1 p.m.
