Ruby Mathis went home to be with the Lord on October 4, 2019, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at the age of 82.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1937, to parents Claude Sr and Ola Woods. She joined Second Missionary Baptist Church in July 1949 under the leadership of Pastor Martin Ribbins, faithfully served on the welcoming committee. She belonged to Club #11 and Family Ministry #7.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Sr and Ola Woods, siblings James O Woods, Claude Woods Jr., children; Kenneth Lebron and Sharon Woods Gardner.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her grandsons, Derrick B. Jackson, Marquis (Inah) Gardner and Brandon P. Gardner, all of Chattanooga; stepsons, Wendell Mathis and Kenneth Mathis, both of Chattanooga; great-grandchildren, Keaira B. Jackson, Marchiah Gardner, Marquis Gardner Jr., Braniah Gardner, Brandon Gardner Jr., and Marquez Gardner, all of Chattanooga; loving God Daughter, Denise (Howard) Sales; very special friends, Deacon Edward and Sis Atheria Freeman and Ottie Mae Bailey, both of Chattanooga; dear cousin, Sarah Anderson of Chattanooga; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and church members.  

Public viewing will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Second Missionary Baptist Church, immediately followed by a funeral service at noon. 

Interment will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens - East.
