Fond Memories Of Chamberlain Field

Thanks Mr. Summers, for the great post on Chamberlain Field.

It held special memories for me and my family. My dad, as an adult, went to UC, was in the band and I spent time there after I got out of school (City, you know that other high school) when he had late practices in the band room.

As a freshman I attended a Thanksgiving Day game and was in ROTC before joining the band two years later. RO did the halftime. That was November, 1965. After the game I walked home. I lived at 309 High Street so the walk was short.

Later in Barry Jones’ UTC band I spent many hours in the Vine Street Side where the band room was. The band was mostly made up of local high school grads and many of us are still friends today.

I met my wife in the band and we courted in the stadium as there were always music folks hanging around and it was a free date. That was perfect since my only source of income was playing my saxophone for Morris Bales or Ed Shallet.

Thanks again for brining back wonderful memories. It was 50 years ago this month Joy and I began dating. I’ll share your post with her and our UTC friends.
