Weekly Road Construction Report

Here is the weekly road construction report for Hamilton County:

I-75 at I-24 Interchange Reconstruction: Crews will continue surveying and spotting utilities at various locations throughout the interchange. Shoulders may be closed at these locations between 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Additionally, the following lane closures will occur during this period: Monday from 10:30 p.m.-6 a.m. - Single right lane closure on I-75 NB to I-24 WB ramp and single left lane closure on I-24 EB, Tuesday from 10:30 p.m.-6 a.m. - Single left lane closure on I-75 NB to I-24 WB ramp, Wednesday from 10:30 p.m.-6 a.m. - Single right lane closure on I-75 SB to I-24 WB ramp (just before Spring Creek Road bridge).  [C.W. US-27 (I-124) Widening from I-24/US-27 interchange to north of the Olgiati Bridge over the Tennessee River, including widening the Olgiati Bridge: Work on this project continues with activities occurring on the west side of southbound US-27. Motorists should be alert for construction vehicles entering and exiting the area along the access ramps for east and westbound M. L. King Boulevard. The speed limit for the access ramp is 35 MPH. The 12th Street tie-in ramp to US-27 South has been temporarily closed. This closure will be in place until further notice. Additionally, the southbound ramp from W. Main Street to southbound US-27 has been temporarily closed and will remain so until further notice. Detours are posted. Motorists should pay close attention to the detour signage posted. The speed limit on US-27 in the construction zone remains 45 MPH. Weather permitting; the contractor may implement temporary lane/shoulder closures on weeknights between the hours of 7 p.m.-6 a.m. At least one lane will remain open in each direction on US-27. Wednesday night from 7 p.m.-6 a.m. The contractor will perform a temporary double right lane closure on southbound Olgiati Bridge then a single right lane closure past the W. 4th St. exit. This closure will be in place for southbound US27 from the Olgiati Bridge to the Martin Luther King Blvd Bridge for staging of bridge beams. Additionally, the southbound US27 Exits 1A-B will be temporarily closed for Setting Beams over Martin Luther King Boulevard. All traffic into town will need to use the southbound US27 exit to 4th Street. Traffic will then be detoured to Broad Street to Martin Luther King Boulevard. The right lane in each direction on Martin Luther King Boulevard will be closed. The Westbound Martin Luther King Boulevard on ramp to southbound US27 will be closed – traffic will be detoured to Gateway Ave / 6th Street / Chestnut / 4th Street to US27 Southbound. All other on ramps will remain open. Restrictions: I-124 (US-27)Northbound Exit 1C 4th St Off Ramp: No oversize/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27) Southbound Exit 1A-B Martin Luther King Blvd. Off Ramp: No oversized/over dimensional loads; I-124 (US-27) Southbound On Ramps from Martin Luther King Boulevard: No oversized/over dimensional loads  Estimated project completion date is January 2020. [Dement Construction Company, LLC/Micka/CNP230]

TDOT Maintenance on SR-319 (Dupont Parkway) northbound at LM 2.67: Region 2 Bridge Repair will be working on SR-319, DuPont Parkway (LM 2.67), over Southern Railway from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday.

TDOT Maintenance on SR-8 (Signal Mountain Road) in both directions from LM 16.0 to LM 16.0: On Tuesday between 10 a.m.-12 p.m., work involving cutting and removal of a tree will take place.

Utility Work on SR-17 (St. Elmo Avenue) both directions at LM 0.62: Installation of a gas service line to 5006 St. Elmo Ave. will take approximately two to three days to complete. Flaggers will be present while lane is closed from April 23 to May 3 between 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Utility Work on SR-321 (Ooltewah-Ringgold Road) in both directions at LM 3.79: Installation of a gas main in the ROW will take place that will require crews to bore under SR-321. A new gas main for Grantham Square Subdivision, Bennie Lane and Pine Ridge Road will take two to three days to complete. Flaggers will be present while lane is closed from April 23 to May 3 between 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Cleaning of the McCallie Tunnel on US-11 (US-64, SR-2), the Stringers Ridge Tunnel on US-127 (SR-8), and the Bachman Tubes on US-41 (US-76, SR-8): The McCallie tunnel is scheduled to be cleaned Wednesday from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. under a flagging operation. The Stringers Ridge tunnel will be cleaned that same night under a signed detour traffic control operation. On Thursday from 8 p.m.-6 a.m., the Bachman tubes will be cleaned under a signed detour operation. Estimated project completion date is June. [Diamond Specialized, Inc./Micka/CNS206]

SR-111 (LM 1.5) Replacement of a collapsed 42" corrugated metal pipe, including grading, drainage, and paving: During this reporting period, the contractor will be addressing punch list items. Estimated project completion date is April. [Thomas Brothers Construction Co., Inc./Pruett/CNS348]

SR-148 (Scenic Highway) Slide repair between LM 2.3 (Sanders Road) and LM 2.5 (Linear Lane): During this report period, the contractor will have one lane closed while they perform stabilization operations to the slide area. One lane of traffic shall remain open at all times. Estimated project completion date is June. [Wright Brothers Construction Company, Inc./Pruett/CNT152]

SR-58 Miscellaneous safety improvements at the intersection of SR-312 (Birchwood Pike) (LM 15.70): The contractor will be completing various safety improvements at the intersection of SR-58 and Birchwood Pike Monday thru Saturday between 5 a.m.-6 p.m. No southbound traffic restrictions will be allowed between 5-9 a.m. No northbound traffic restrictions will be allowed between 3-6 p.m. Flaggers will assist with traffic control as needed.
