Review for Joanne Shaw Taylor:
One of the fiercest women in rock, British guitar siren and incredible vocalist Joanne Shaw Taylor will be bringing her headlining tour to Songbirds north stage. Joanne’s new album, Reckless Heart, is out now via Silvertone/ Sony. Her newest song “All My Love” accentuates Joanne’s soulfully powerful rasp and audacious guitar skills and was included in Rolling Stone’s latest 10 Best Country and Americana Songs to Hear Now roundup.
Over the last decade, Joanne mastered a sound drenched in emotion with the rawness of its music and lyrics which propelled her to two British Blues Award wins for “Best Female Vocalist.” Born out of a newfound openness that only comes with life experience, Reckless Heart illuminates Joanne’s firecracker personality and confidence.
The album, which was recorded live with some of Detroit’s best musicians, features 11 tracks that explore a variety of emotions ranging from blaring anger to flirty love. Lead single “The Best Thing” confidently puts a lover on warning for not committing.
Pulling the past into the present, Joanne’s cut-to-the-bone vocals and good-time grooves of vintage with a modern makeover have won her fans such as Stevie Wonder, Joe Bonamassa, Foreigner, Annie Lennox and Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart, who discovered Joanne at age 16. With a smoky rasp that rises from the legend of soul greats, Joanne has a voice that will stop you in your tracks and the best is yet to come.
