Chester Clark
Chester I. Clark, Sr., the son of the late Mr. Willie Clark and Mrs. Doris Clark Hopkins, was born in Moody Air Force Base, Georgia, February 4, 1945. He entered into eternal rest July 16, 2019 in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
A veteran of the Vietnam War, he served and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany and advanced to the rank of Sergeant in the United States Army.
He received his primary and secondary education in the Valdosta, Georgia Public School System. He graduated Salutatorian of his high school class; and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Morehouse College in Atlanta. He was the youngest elected CEO for the Albany, Georgia National Urban League. He completed training to achieve a professional degree from the Cincinnati School of Mortuary Science where he won many awards and accolades. He also served as a tutor and mentor to many of his fellow classmates. He was a licensed funeral director and Embalmer and owned and operated his own funeral home in Valdosta. He was baptized and developed his Christian faith at St. Paul AME Church in Valdosta. As an adult, he later united with Alton Park Community Church of Chattanooga. He loved people and had a passion for helping others and was always willing and able to help those in need. He was an avid sports enthusiast and always attended his sons sporting events.
He leaves to cherish his memory a former wife, Mrs. Sandra H. Clark and two sons, Chester I. Clark II, M.D. of Chattanooga and Carlos C. Clark, Esq. of Windermere, Fl., and four grandchildren, all of Windermere and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, in the chapel of John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 423 622-9995.
