UTC's Tiano, Lawson At SoCon Media Days Monday

  • Monday, July 22, 2019
The 2019 Southern Conference Football Media Day is set for Monday, July 22, in Spartanburg, S.C.  Representatives from all nine football playing schools in the league will be on hand for the afternoon of interviews and discussions leading into the 2019 season.

Senior quarterback Nick Tiano and junior defensive back Jerrell Lawson, are making the trip, along with head coach Rusty Wright.  All three will be on hand for the kickoff luncheon and interview sessions.

Both Tiano and Lawson enter the season as recent graduates of UTC.  They both earned their degrees in Business Management and both are pursuing M.B.A.s in the UTC Rollins School of Business.

Tiano was third in the SoCon and 16th in the FCS in completions per game (21.2) last season.  He was also third in the league and No.
21 in the county with 246.4 passing yards per game.  His 2,710 passing yards were fifth-most in a season at UTC and 233 completions were third-most in a season in school history.  He only threw six INTs last year, the fewest among Mocs QBs who completed over 200 passes in a season.

Lawson started as a defensive back in 2018, but moved up to linebacker the last eight games.  He finished fourth on the team with 53 tackles, while adding 2.5 sacks and 4.5 TFLs.

Monday will be 38 days until kickoff against Eastern Illinois.  Be sure to get your tickets now for the Thursday night home opener by clicking the "Tickets" tab at the top of the page.
