Ooltewah Farmers Market will host its 5th annual Melon Fest on Thursday from 3-6 p.m. Admission is free.
The market, now in its seventh year, is celebrating locally grown melons of every kind. A number of local farms are growing different melons for this event, such as seedless watermelons, yellow or orange fleshed melons, cantaloupes, heirloom melons, heirloom melons like “Moon and Stars,” and good old standards like Sangria watermelon, Sugar Baby, Crimson Sweet, and more.
Activities will include a seed spitting contest (two categories: adults and kids), melon themed music, a photo area and line dancing. At 5 p.m. learn to do "The Watermelon Crawl".
There will be free watermelon samples to taste. Plus, many watermelon-themed items will be available including watermelon baked goods, watermelon ice cream or sorbet, and watermelon iced tea or punch. There will be various melon jellies and jams as well.
Ooltewah Farmers Market is a community service initiative of Ooltewah Nursery, and is open every Thursday all year round without closing. More information can be found by searching for Ooltewah Farmers Market on Facebook, or visit OoltewahNursery.com.
