A Chattanooga Police officer was struck while working a head-on collision on Highway 153 early Sunday morning.

The incident happened around 2:15 a.m. near the intersection with U.S. 27.

The officer was hit by a white Chevrolet pickup truck that drove through the active crash scene.

Investigator Jefrey Buckner, 33, was taken to the hospital, but his condition was not immediately known.

There were injuries in the head-on crash.

After the incident, both northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 153 were shut down from Boy Scout Road to U.S. 27 for an extended time.

Police said the driver of the pickup, Jerry Burroughs, 60, remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Police said the driver of a Chevrolet Corvette was going north on Highway 153 in light rain, while a Lexus SUV was traveling south in the right lane. Witnesses said the driver of the Corvette lost control and it went sliding into traffic, striking the Lexus SUV.

The Corvette driver, James Upton, 61, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The Lexus was driven by Sherry West, 50.
