Longtime Hamilton County Teacher Was Member Of Red Bank Baptist Church

Jean L. Jackson, 81, of Signal Mountain, Tennessee, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2019.

Jean was born on May 17, 1938, in Chattanooga to the late George and Billie Ledford. 

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Bernard Jackson; daughter, Anne Elizabeth Baugher (Laverne); brother, George Ledford Jr. (Lesley); brother, Keith Ledford (Kym); nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles and Ron Ledford and sister, Gwen Ledford.

Jean was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church for 25 years. She graduated from Tyner High School and from Treveca Nazarene University with a B.A. degree in education and Masters Degree in education. She taught in Hamilton County Public Schools for 23 years, 16 years at Big Ridge Elementary 4th grade—the love of her life. She was awarded Who’s Who Among American Teachers in 2002.

The family wishes to extend a very special thanks to the staff at Alexian Village of Signal Mountain for their loving care for Alzheimer’s patients. Also, very special thanks go to Lynnette Alston and Leslie Dunn for the time they cared for Jean. 

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel, Hixson. The funeral will be held at Red Bank Baptist Church at Noon on Thursday, Aug. 8,  officiated by Dr. Fred Steelman, Reverend Bill Harvey, and Dr. Sam Greer. There will be a visitation at the church one hour before the funeral.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Mashburn, Jerry Nicholson, Bob Jackson, Keith Shumate, Michael Ledford and Jerry Smith.

Interment will follow in Tennessee Georgia Memorial Park in Rossville.
