George Fossett

George Robert Fossett, 89, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 18, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Agnes Fossett. Their 62 years of marriage are highlighted by the fact that they both passed away on each other's birthday. They were truly special people. George was born and raised in the Tilton community, the son of Marvin and Martha Fossett.

George served his country proudly during the Korean War, spending two years in the conflict. He participated in the battles of Heartbreak Ridge and the Punchbowl, leaving the Army with the rank of Sergeant First Class.

After coming back home, he put himself through trade school at night, becoming a machinist. It was a trade that he would perfect for the rest of his life, working at Robert’s Machine Shop and Industrial Bearing for over a combined 50 years. He was well respected in his craft. He was a phenomenal husband, father, and grandfather. He was humble and soft spoken, always looking out for everyone else first. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and friends.

George and Agnes, his wife of 62 years, had a special bond, and a way of making anyone feel welcome into their home and lives. The irony of them both passing away on the other's birthday is a beautiful way to close the book of their life together. We are sure that Agnes got her best birthday present ever, yesterday afternoon.

George is survived by two sons, Mark Fossett and Shannon Fossett, both of Dalton; two grandchildren, Jade Robertson and Trystan Fossett, also both of Dalton; four great-grandchildren, Haygen Cummings, Eli Fossett, Kyzer Fossett, and Decker Fossett.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, at 12 p.m. in the chapel of Love Funeral Home.

Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Saturday, Jan. 25, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
