The SNL Debate

  • Thursday, October 1, 2020

I wanted to congratulate the fine folks at Saturday Night Live (SNL) for the hilarious comedy they presented to a national television audience this week. I thought the parody of a Presidential Debate was stellar. The script writing and production were spot on and what can I say about the actors who portrayed President Donald J. Trump and former Vice-President Joe Biden; they nailed it.

The costumes were so realistic.

The banter between two angry men eager for one more hoorah in life was priceless. And let’s not forget the guy who played the moderator…so Newsworthy-esque. The only problem I saw was in the stage lighting; one guy looked like an old white man who blobbed on sunscreen but stayed too long on the sunny beach and the other appeared to be a casket tester.

I laughed the entire 90 minutes and harkened back to the SNL golden days of Eddie Murphy, John Belushi, Chevy Chase and Steve Martin.

When the debate ended I really enjoyed the throwback SNL commercial that appeared to be real journalists and politicians practically weeping and gnashing their teeth. Man, oh man, did that look real. Made me think of the old Bass O Matic masterpiece.

The only event that will top this is when the real candidates for President of the United States are revealed at some point very soon. No one really can honestly believe that the two guys portrayed on television this week are up the task of leading our great nation. Nah, not even the beloved Three Stooges could make that joke work.
