Sequoyah Exercise Tests Coordination Of TVA, Federal, State and Local Agencies

  • Friday, October 2, 2020

Emergency responders from federal, state and local agencies will join Tennessee Valley Authority personnel in an emergency preparedness graded exercise involving the Sequoyah nuclear plant on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

Officials said, "The exercise is part of an ongoing series of training drills and exercises required by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to ensure an effective and coordinated response to protect the health and safety of the public in the unlikely event of an emergency at Sequoyah.

"Although the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic requires some modifications to the exercise format to protect the health and safety of those involved, TVA and the state and local emergency response agencies believe it is important to maintain proficiency in these critical processes and skills."

Results of the exercise will be shared at a public meeting on Friday, Oct. 16, at 11 a.m. in the Roberts Room on the first floor of the Chattanoogan Hotel, 1201 Broad St. in Chattanooga. Those wishing to attend are asked to wear appropriate face covering and maintain physical distancing to help ensure the health of all attendees.
