Ella Mae Noble Montgomery, 78, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, October 27, 2020, at her residence.

She was the daughter of the late Sarah Hammer and Thomas Noble.  She was born on June 25, 1942 in Tanner, Alabama.  She surrendered her life to Christ at an early age.  Ella was a faithful member of Olivet Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Kevin Adams, Sr.  She was a 1959 graduate of Trinity High School in Athens, Alabama.  She was a long-time employee of F.W. Woolworth in Eastgate Mall, Olan Mills, Chattanooga State, and retired from Five Star Food Service in 2019 when her health began to fail.  In school, she played basketball.  Ella was famous for her cooking.  Her hobby was shopping every Saturday or just visiting her favorite stores.  She loved going to church even when it was not Sunday.  Most of all she loved her family. 

Ella was preceded in death by her husband, Ben E. Montgomery; grandson, Jarius Howell; brother, Garry Hammer; and grandson-in-law, James Tulloss. 

Ella Mae’s beautiful life will forever be cherished by her children, Diarry (Venita) Howell, Dana (Anita) Montgomery, Danny Wade (Wanda) Montgomery, Cathy Cooper, and Fran Pierce, all of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Korshantae Tulloss, Denisha Montgomery, Daniel (Marissa) Montgomery, Reginald Cooper, all of Chattanooga, JeMiia Pierce of Murfreesboro, TN, and US Navy Seaman Recruit JeLiia Pierce of San Antonio, TX; great-grandchildren, Sayvion Whitaker, Christian Tulloss, Decorium Montgomery, Jasmine Montgomery, Brantley Montgomery, and Javen Montgomery, all of Chattanooga; brother, Thomas (Mary Jane) Hammer; sisters, Barbara (Timothy) Houston, Lillian Hammer, and Ernestine Cox; stepfather, Ram Hammer; nieces and nephews, Christopher Hammonds, Byron (Tracy) Hammonds, Shawanda (Timothy) Fletcher, and Shaneka Wallace; special niece, Isidra (Travis) Hawkins, all of Athens, AL; special friend, Jackie Scott; goddaughter, Valeria Thomas; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins; other relatives and friends.

Ella will lie in state on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 9 a.m. at Taylor Funeral Home.  

Family services will follow at 11 a.m. in the chapel with Bishop Kevin L. Adams, Sr. as the eulogist. 

Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
