Charles Layne
Charles “DeWayne” Layne, 59, was born March 18, 1959 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to A. Riley Layne, Sr. and Virginia Bertha Elaster Layne. Dewayne gained his wings January 3, 2020, at the age of 59.
Dewayne became a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church at a young age. Dewayne attended Tyner High School and joined the United States Army November 14, 1977 where he received an honorable discharge. Dewayne was known for working on cars but also held a job as a security guard and later in life Dewayne went into the repossessing business. Dewayne found his calling in plumbing at Chattanooga State Community College and took up classes and became a certified plumber where he started his own plumbing business B & L Plumbing.
Dewayne was preceded in death by parents, Riley Layne, Sr. and Virginia Layne; younger brother, Allen R. Layne, Jr.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his only sister, Angela Layne Hendley; nieces, Laketha “Keke” Hendley, Tamara “Mara” Hendley, Taj Hendley; nephews, Allen Darnell Hendley, Donnie “RJ” Hendley, Jr.; step-son, John and Anthony Wright; step-daughters, Shannon Salazar, Cara Corbett, Dominique Harris; a host of other nephew, nieces, cousins, family and friends.
Public viewing will begin at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the chapel. Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.
