Faced with the prospect of seeing what else 2020 has to offer, Annie “Sue” Carman decided to be with the Lord, instead. She brought joy into this world from July 30, 1936 until June 25, 2020.

Sue became known for her dedication to family and community. With loyal service to the Gold Star Wives (Magnolia Chapter) and sitting as president for the Women’s Auxiliary Post 4848, Sue touched the lives of so many including the Orange Grove Center and the Chambliss Home. She decorated the National Cemetery for Memorial Day, used her southern culinary skills to feed the hungry, and was awarded Mother of the Year while raising five children as her husband served in Vietnam.

She was preceded in death by Willett A. Carman (husband), Laura E. Cannon (daughter), Annie Laura Goss (mother), Van C. Payne (father) and Van Payne II (brother).

She leaves behind her children: Dorothy “Lynne” Trallo (Rocco), Sherry Lawrence (Doug), Willett “Bill” Carman (Debra), and Sandra Martone (John), seventeen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, her dear friends Dorothy Dillon, Sandra Richardson, Charlene Craig, and her obese, loyal dog, Lucy.

Sue was a cancer survivor, a philanthropist, a Christian, a matriarch, and our Mom-Mom. She left with us beautiful memories, funny “Mom-Mom moments”, several porcelain roosters, salt-and-pepper shakers, and wisdom that will be carried on by all who listened.

Her wishes were to be laid to rest alongside her late husband, Willett Carman, in a ceremony with full military honors Wednesday, July 1, at Chattanooga National Cemetery at 1200 Bailey Ave, at 1 pm.
