Fredrick Charles Smith, 72, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 27, 2020, with his wife by his side.

He was a 1965 graduate of Howard High School. He continued his education at Alabama A&M University and received his bachelor’s degree.  He earned his master’s degree in Administration from Trevecca Nazarene University. Fred had a passion to educate the youth.  He retired after 36 years of working in education.  Fred was a longtime member of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church.  He later became a member of Saint Stephen Catholic Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Johnnie and Gladys Smith; brothers, Anthony Smith and Dewayne Smith.

 Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Carolyn Smith; sons, Roger Smith and Tracy Watkins; five sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; five nieces; three great-nephews; three godchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and friends.

Fredrick will lie in state on Friday, July 3, at 10 a.m. at Saint Stephen Catholic Church with the family service to follow at 11 a.m. with Father Bertin Glennon and Father Manuel Perez officiating.  

Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
