Rex Donald “Don” Dodson, 84, resident of Cleveland, went to meet his Lord and Savior on his birthday July 19, 2020.
Don was born on July 19, 1936, in Riceville, Tn. to the late Oliver and Marie Pickens Dodson. He was an Air Force veteran. He retired from truck driving after 50+ years, with most of his tenure at Hardwick Stove and ending with Maytag. Don, often known as “Hind Catcher” to his trucking friends, never met a stranger and truly loved being around people. He was a member of Evening Light Gospel Tabernacle.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Buddy Dodson (wife Jean) and his sister, Levina Dodson Bishop (husband W.D Bishop).
Those left behind to cherish his memory are is his wife of 48 1/2 years, Betty Ruth Akins Dodson; children, Donald Wesley “Wes” Dodson (Lisa), of Athens, Janet Smallen Smith, of Nashville, Lisa Dodson Moore (Michael), of Etowah and Don Jason Dodson (Elisabeth “Lis”), of Cleveland; grandchildren, Jayson Braddy (Valerie) of Ooltewah, TN; Jenna Smith of Cookeville, TN; Brianna Dodson, of Cleveland, Matthew Dodson, of Cleveland and Hannah Moore, of Etowah; great-grandchildren, Deklyn and Delaney Braddy; and sister, Martha Rose McDowell. He will be dearly missed by his family that he loved so much.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life service to be held Saturday, July 25 at 5 p.m. in the chapel of Companion Funeral Home, 2415 Georgetown Road NW in Cleveland, with Jamie Thurman officiating. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 3-5 p.m.
