Ernest Dale Coady, 94 of Ooltewah, went home to be with the Lord, on Thursday, July 30, 2020.

He was born on July 7, 1926, in Henagar, Al., to the late William Hubbard Coady and Ruby Summerour Coady.

Ernest was a man who loved God, his family and his country.  He served God for many years, serving as a Charter Member of South Seminole Baptist Church and later attending Ridgedale Baptist Church, serving both churches in several capacities.  He was devoted to his family, being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.  His devotion to our country was demonstrated when he joined the U.S. Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre, from December 1944 to July 1946.  Following his release from the U.S. Navy, he spent the next 38 years of service as a maintenance supervisor with DuPont.  His character and integrity will not be forgotten by those who knew him.

Ernest was preceded in death by three sisters, Edith Brown, Ethel Ferguson and Dorcas Martin, all of Alabama, and his son-in-law, Dr. William F. Mathis of North Carolina.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Margaret Helen Coady; daughters, Pamela Coady Mathis of North Carolina and Cheryl Coady (Charlie Ray) Vaughn of Ooltewah; grandchildren, Amanda (Sloan) Holliday of North Carolina, Amber (Chris) Adams of Virginia, Emily (Philip) Carothers of NC and Carter (Whitney) Vaughn of Ooltewah; five great-grandchildren; sister, Laura Lee Mills of North Carolina; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Lantern at Morning Pointe of Collegedale for the wonderful kindness and care they provided.

The family will be conducting a private service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
