Donald “Don” Freeman Shoemaker, Sr., 82, of Chattanooga, passed from this life on August 4, 2020.

He was born and raised in Birmingham, Al., on Oct. 29, 1937, to Freeman and Ruth Dawson Shoemaker.  He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Patricia Jensen Shoemaker; brother, Gary Shoemaker; sister, Linda Ray; granddaughter, Nancy Shoemaker; and step-daughter, Kimberly McKenzie Friedlund.

He is mourned by his wife, Mary M. Shoemaker; sons, Donald F. Shoemaker, Jr. of Wichita, KS and Wayne T. (Julie) Shoemaker of Pensacola, FL; step-sons, James P. McKenzie of Tampa, FL and Joseph T. McKenzie of San Antonio, TX; sister, Sherry Prescott of Pensacola, FL; seven grand-children; seven great grand-children; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

Don was a longtime employee of Armstrong World Industries and retired as Director of Information Services of the Carpet Division, Evans and Black, in Dalton, GA.  He was a member of the Agape Sunday School Class of Woodland Park Baptist Church.  Don’s love of travel took him to all fifty states, four continents, and many countries.

A simple service will be held at the Valley View Chapel of Chattooga Funeral Home at 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, with Jim Barclay officiating.  The family will receive for one hour prior to the service. 

A private interment will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the building fund at Woodland Park Baptist Church or St. Jude’s Hospital.

We respectfully request that "social distancing", wearing masks, and all CDC measures be adhered to at the funeral home.
