Jane Rankin Morgan passed away at home on August 5, 2020. She was a brave and determined fighter until the end.

The daughter of Veda and Leonard Rankin of Finger, Tn., Jane was born on Jan. 22, 1933.  She attended the University of Tennessee where she met John Morgan of Chattanooga. They married in 1953 and upon John’s completion of law school, the young couple returned to Chattanooga where they resided the rest of their lives. John preceded her in death in 1986 and she learned to create a fulfilling independent life. She devoted her time and attention to her growing family, her many friends, and her church, First Centenary United Methodist.

Jane is survived by her three children: Jan Harrison (Frank) of Charlotte, Jay Morgan (Sarah), and Jeff Morgan (Melissa) all of Chattanooga. Her nine grandchildren, who loved and adored her, and her nine great-grandchildren, affectionately know her as Mama Jane. She is survived by her brother, Richard L. Rankin (Myrna), and their family.

Jane is remembered by her children as being devoted to the well-being of her home and family. She had high standards and expected them to be kept. As one of her lifelong friends said, “One of the things I loved most about her, you always knew where you stood with Jane.” She was a committed member of the Morgan Sunday School Class at First Centenary, the altar guild, and a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House for many years. She created exquisite pieces of needlework, loved to travel with friends, and always had an open heart and ready arms for the newest baby to join the family.  We will all miss her beauty and her sense of humor.

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, a graveside service will be held to celebrate her life at Forest Hills, on Monday, Aug. 10, at 11 a.m. with Reverend Dr. C. Mark Gooden officiating.

Gifts in memory of Jane may be made to First Centenary United Methodist Church, 419 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga, Tn. 37402.

Arrangements are under the care of Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist East Chapel, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, Tn. 37412.
