Mark Nelson Durant, 67 years of age, of Centre, Ala., died Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at Kindred Hospital of Chattanooga, TN.
Mark was born December 20, 1953, in Fort Worth, TX, to Henry John (Hank) and Jacqueline (Jacky) Durant.
Mark was a native of Florida. He attended Miami Military Academy and later Valley Forge Military Academy in Pennsylvania. Mark graduated high school in 1971 at Berlin American High School, Berlin, Germany. Mark was a member of the wrestling team and photography club.
Mark’s father, Hank Durant, was a pilot for the Pan American Airlines, which afforded Mark and family the opportunity to see the world and travel extensively throughout Europe and the world.
Mark and Megan moved to Centre in 1993. Mark attended Gadsden State and received his EMT license and worked for Cherokee County.
Mark had several businesses throughout his life - Mark’s Lawn and Landscaping in Jupiter, FL, Mar-Tex Construction, and Mark’s Contracting in Centre, he retired in 2013.
Mark was a member of the Berlin Brats, The Guild of Master Craftsmen and a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church of Centre.
Mark is survived by wife Darnell (Bone) Durant of Centre; daughters Megan (Steven) Blalock of Cedar Bluff, AL, and Beth (Kevin) Kinder of Detroit, MI; sons Cory George of Sarasota, FL, and Will (Chelsea) George of Millington, TN; sister Toni (Bern) Arenas of Tampa, FL; father Henry John (Hank) Durant of Rainbow City, AL; mother-in-law Virginia Bone of Centre; sister-in-law Kathleen Maples of McAllen, TX; brother-in-law Russell Bone of Smithville, TX, six grandchildren Jack and Delilah Blalock of Cedar Bluff and Lillian, Olivia, Dallas and Liam George of Millington, TN., several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jacky Durant, his brother, Ronald Oyler, and father-in-law, William (Bill) Bone.
Celebration of Life services will be Wednesday, October 20, 2021 at 11 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church in Centre, AL. with Rev. Rodney Averitt of Hammond, LA, officiating.
