Opal V. Powers, 85, of Chattanooga, passed away at her home on Thursday, October 14, 2021.

Opal was born in Lincoln County, W.V. She retired from Ripley Apparel in Ripley, W.V.Opal and her husband, moved to Chattanooga in 1992. She also retired from K-Mart on Highway 58. Opal was a longtime member of Abba’s House in Hixson. 

Opal was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Harold “Bud” Powers.

Opal is survived by her brother, Jennings “Ben” Simpkins and several nieces and nephews. 

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

A Celebration of Opal’s Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, at the North Chapel with Dr. Ron Phillips officiating.  Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Opal’s name to Danny Thomas Foundation for Children – St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 – 9959 or www.st.jude.org   

The family respectfully request that social distancing, wearing masks, and all CDC measures be followed at the funeral home and cemetery.
