The Lee softball team opened Gulf South Conference play in style on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of the Union Bulldogs from Butler Field.

The Lady Flames improve to 4-2 on the year and are 2-0 in the GSC. Union falls to 1-7 and are 0-2 in GSC play. The two teams will wrap up the weekend series on Sunday at 2 p.m.

"I think we worked ahead in the count most of the day which helped us in the circle today," said Lee head coach Emily Russell. "We played with a great pace all day today.
Our pitchers were efficient and we showcased our speed and power throughout the lineup. I think we have great balance in our lineup. It's a good mixture between our super seniors and veteran players and our talented freshman. We had a big layoff with having last weekend off so to come out and play the way we played today was a encouraging to see."

GAME 2 – LEE 8 UU 0

Taylor De Adder dazzled in the circle and the Lady Flames Annalyn Ormsby drove in four to help the Lady Flames complete the sweep of the Bulldogs, 8-0 in Saturday's nightcap.

De Adder (2-0) allowed just three singles and struck out eight in five innings. The junior did not allow a walk and kept the Bulldogs off balance the entire night.

Ormsby capped off a four-run first inning for the Lady Flames with a two-run double center field. She ended the run-rule game with a two run single right back up the box in the fifth inning.

De Adder helped her own cause with a run scoring single in the second. Kayla Louie, who finished 2 for 2 with two run scored, singled home a run in the fourth.

Lily Johnson (0-1) was tagged with the loss as she went four-plus innings allowing seven runs on eight hits. She struck out three and walked two.

GAME 1 – LEE 7 UU 2

Freshman pitcher Madison Barnett (2-0) settled in after giving up two runs in the first inning to shutdown the Union Bulldogs and lead the Lady Flames to a 7-2 win in game one. Barnett allowed just the two runs on four hits and struck out nine. She walked just one and allowed just two singles over the last six frames.

The Lady Flames answered the two first inning Union runs with an RBI single by Laney Harris to score Louie. Lee took the lead for good with back to back run-scoring walks by Abby McKinney and Harris.

Kylie Bohl went 2 for 4 with a double and scored a run. De Adder doubled home two in the fifth inning and Louie was 2 for 2 with a walk and three runs scored.
