T. J. Gilreath
T. J. Gilreath, 85, passed away peacefully at home and entered the gate of heaven on Wednesday, March 17, 2021. He was born in Dahlonega, Ga., on July 29,1935.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Treman and Alma Hamby Gilreath, his wife of 61 years, Joann Layne Gilreath, son, Dennis Gilreath, brother, Kenneth Gilreath, and infant sister.
He’s survived by a daughter Rhonda and (Ronald) Franklin, he was papaw to Elijah Franklin who was the sunshine of his life, a granddaughter, Elisha Gilreath, brother, Willard Gilreath and several nieces and nephews.
He was a man of faith who loved his family. He truly lived by “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
He was a 1953 graduate of Fyffe High School in Fyffe, Al. He retired from Combustion Engineering Company and Rosewood Supportive Services. He was a member of the Soddy Daisy Knife Collectors Association. He enjoyed gardening, mowing the yard and working in the garage. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and Alabama football. He was also known by his kindness. And he was known as “Papaw” to many and was always an encourager.
A private graveside service will be held for the family in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
