The John Sevier Chapter of the Tennessee Society Sons of the American Revolution, as part of the America 250th anniversary celebrations honoring the events of the American Revolution, performed a ceremony honoring the service of Patriot Benjamin Jones at 2 p.m. on Monday.

The ceremony celebrated the patriots’ service on the 243rd Anniversary of the battle of Monmouth in 1778.  In addition to the patriot’s service biography being presented, his burial site’s flag was replaced.  The reflagging ceremony is a short formal ceremony by which the old flag that was posted in 2020 is retired and a new flag installed.

Ceremony participating organizations included SAR and DAR members from the John Sevier Chapter TNSSAR, Col. Benjamin Cleveland Chapter TNSSAR and Chickamauga Chapter TNDAR.

The John Sevier Chapter will conduct the next anniversary focused reflagging ceremony on Aug. 16 in honor of Patriot Robert Patterson.  Individuals or organizations interested in participating with the SAR in this patriotic program can contact the John Sevier Chapter at: https://johnsevierchapter.org/home  for more information.
