Bronze Star Recipient Was Avid Tennis Player And Retired Insurance Agent

James Walter “Jim” Earls, 76, of East Ridge, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021, at his home. 
 
He was a proud Vietnam Veteran having earned a bronze star for heroism serving in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant.  Jim’s other medals include the National Defense Service medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, one Overseas Service Bar, Air Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Badge (M-60), Marksman Badge (M-16).  He was a member of the American Legion Post 95.  Jim was a retired insurance agent. 
 
An athlete, Jim was an avid tennis player and played football in high school.  If you knew Jim you knew that he bled orange. He loved UT sports, all other sports, and activities that resembled sports when sports were not available. Jim loved to sing, argue politics, and make moonshine (which he can no longer get in trouble for doing!) Jim was a good guy and GREAT friend.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Grover Earls, Jr. and Sue Ella McGibony Earls and a brother, Gordon Earls.
 
Survivors include his daughter, Jamie (Frank) George; two sons, Patrick Levan (Shannon) Earls and James Walter “Jay Jordan” Earls, II; two grandchildren, Steven George and Leah George; one sister, Bonnie Dugan; several nieces and nephews.  
 
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 4, at Brainerd Baptist Church with the Rev. Reece Fauscett officiating.  Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.  There will be no visitation.

Arrangements are by the East Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 404 South Moore Road.
