The intersection of Chestnut Street at 3rd Street will be closed beginning Monday at noon for a four-week duration. This closure is in preparation for the upcoming milling and paving of Chestnut Street, which requires the stabilization of the intersection prior to paving.
The estimated time frame, weather permitting is as follows:
Week 1: Demolition of all brick, crosswalks and ramps within the intersection. Reduced noise prior to 9 a.m.; no work will be performed after 6 p.m.
Week 2: Concrete pouring.
Week 3: Curing time, also padding for unplanned delays.
Week 4: Milling and paving; Road will be reopened with only occasional lane closures during the milling and paving process.
"Our goal is to have the entire project complete, including striping, no later than Nov. 5," officials said.
The following roads and sidewalks will be closed during this time:
· Entire intersection of 3rd Street and Chestnut Street;
· All crosswalks at the intersection of 3rd Street and Chestnut (temporary accessible ramps and crosswalk will be installed on the west and north side of the intersection);
· Chestnut Street between 4th and 3rd (including the east sidewalk); and
· 3rd Street between Power Alley and the Shuttle Park North entrance.
No active construction will take place over weekends, but the closure will remain in place. All detours and closures are noted on the diagram.
