Mocs Wrestling Adds Transfer From Northern Illinois

  • Tuesday, January 11, 2022
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga’s head wrestling coach Kyle Ruschell announced the addition of Nicholas Benton to the team. Benton is a transfer from Northern Illinois and did not compete last season; he has four years of eligibility remaining.

“We are excited for Nicholas to join the squad. He will bring more depth to our upperweights and we look forward to seeing him scrap in a Chattanooga singlet. Nicholas had a lot of success in high school and we are eager to see what he can do on the mat as a Moc.”

Benton is four-time letterwinner at Somerset Academy in Miramar, Fla.
He holds the record for the most career wins in Florida history with 251. The 197-pounder was the 2020 Somerset Academy Scholar Athlete of the Year, a four-time all-conference selection and first-team all-area selection by the Miami Herald.

Benton and the Mocs return to the mat this weekend as they head to the Virginia Duals in Charlottesville, Va. on Friday, Jan. 14.
