Alvin D. Hodes, 97, passed away at home on January 13, 2022.
Born June 7, 1924, to Mary and Morris Hodes, Alvin was a lifelong Chattanoogan. He graduated from Baylor School, then served in the Army during WWII in the European Theater, before graduating from Georgia Tech in 1948.
In 1953, Alvin married Elizabeth (Liz) Feibelman after a short courtship; their marriage lasted 57 years, until her death in 2010.
Alvin worked with his father in the hosiery business and was a partner in Jazzy Casuals, a women’s sportswear company. Outside of work, he enjoyed gardening, travelling, reading, family time and was active in the community.
Survivors include his sister, Sylvia Zuckerman; daughter, Leslie (Ron) Swichkow; son, Andy Hodes; grandchildren, Erin (Seth) Cooper, Brian (Chantle) Swichkow, Micah Hodes and Jonah Hodes; great-grandchildren, Ellie Cooper and Avery Cooper; and many nieces and nephews. His love for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren (as their Papa) was a source of great pleasure, especially in his later years.
He was once asked if he had any goals in life. His answer was, “I realize that I am not destined for greatness, but would like to be a good son, a good husband, a good father, a good citizen and a good friend.”
Alvin was buried at the Mizpah Cemetery on Friday, Jan. 14.
In lieu of flowers, family requests donations to Mizpah Congregation or Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga.
Arrangements are by locally owned and operated Ponders Brainerd Chapel, 4203 Brainard Road, Chattanooga, TN. (423) 531-4002.
