U.S. Army Veteran Was Longtime Professor At Chattanooga State

Jarvis G. Dean, Jr. died peacefully on January 14, 2022. He was 86.

Mr. Dean was born in Chattanooga and lived here for much of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Marian Dean, his sons David (Barbara) Dean, Jonathan (Loeung) Dean, five grandchildren, Nathan, Lydia, Joshua, Pierson and Elijah, sister, Mary D. Panero, and his niece, Lora Mercado.

Mr. Dean graduated from McCallie High School, obtained a bachelor’s degree from Duke University, and a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. He served in the US Army and was a long-time professor at Chattanooga State Technical Community College. Always a person of wit, dry humor, and great intellect, he exuded love for his family, friends, and God to the very end.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
