Trombonist and music director Otmer Braxton Horn, Jr. of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, January 17, 2022. He was 82.

Born in Charleston, WV on Nov. 13, 1939, to the late Otmer Braxton Horn, Sr. and Marguerite Elaine Roy Horn. He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Charleston, WV in 1957 and went on to attend college at Tennessee Temple University where he was known for the time that he played with their brass quartet.

In 1970 he began his career in the ministry as minister of music at Burgess Road Baptist Church and went on to become associate pastor and music director at Smyrna Baptist Church of Pensacola, FL for more than 19 years where he is fondly remembered by many.

Otmer was a talented choir director, trombonist, singer, and song writer and he will be missed by so many in the music community.

Surviving are his three daughters, Donella Ray, Elaine Garrett, and Melody Stapleton of Pensacola, Fl., and his stepdaughter, Tiffany Howard of Chattanooga. He is also survived by his sister, Elaine Williams of Lake Placid, Fl.

At Otmer’s request, no service will be held. His ashes will be spread along the Gulf of Mexico in Pensacola, Fl., at a later date.
