Each October, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution members in more than 3,000 chapters around the world are encouraged to observe the Society’s Oct. 11, 1890 founding by performing a variety of local service projects.
This year, Chattanooga’s Chickamauga Chapter DAR members completed two service projects.
Members wrote a total of 1,000 cards of appreciation for military veterans for distribution on upcoming Honor Flights. The cards will be sent to honor flight hubs around the country by the non-profit organization, Friends of the Troops.
Chapter members also met at the Forest Hills Cemetery to conserve the headstones of founding members of the Chickamauga Chapter.
The two projects emphasized three major areas of DAR committee work: DAR Service for Veterans, Historic Preservation, and Conservation.
Chickamauga Chapter Regent Gayle Burrows said, “Chickamauga Chapter DAR members regularly perform local service projects promoting the NSDAR goals of Historic Preservation, Education and Patriotism. I am immensely proud of their dedication to community service.”
